Stylized Short Featuring Faceless Witches and Pure 2D Animation
Wicked Witches is a short, self-initiated animation created by layered.video to explore stylized 2D character work in a pure vector environment. Built using a mix of newly designed and recycled assets from past projects, this playful riddle centers around a group of faceless witches trying to outsmart each other. The video combines snappy timing, kinetic movement, and a healthy dose of spooky weirdness—without relying on any dialogue or UI. A fun internal challenge that let us flex our design muscles and storytelling instincts.
The Challenge:
We wanted to push our character animation chops—no clients, no briefs, no UI—just pure vector animation and a riddle about wicked witches. The goal? Create a short that lives entirely in 2D, features no faces, and still manages to be expressive, fun, and easy to follow. It had to feel crisp, punchy, and just a little bit ridiculous. This wasn’t tied to any real campaign—it was just us messing with motion and storytelling in a way that made the team laugh.
Solution:
We built a short piece from scratch using only vector assets—characters, props, backgrounds—all animated in 2D with a limited color palette and no dialogue. The witches are faceless (because mystery), but full of attitude. The animation plays with timing, spacing, and physical comedy to carry the whole story. It’s a playful riddle in motion and a great example of how we bring style, personality, and clarity to even the simplest setups—no product demo required.
